How do I prepare for my stationing?
It is a good idea to read up on the material that you have received from your employer and from us. Remember to keep relevant contact information in case anything should happen during your stationing. you can download your insurance card on your cell phone. It contains the relevant phone numbers as well as your policy number.
It is important that you educate yourself regarding specific rules and situations in the country where you are stationed. Furthermore, it is important that you have declared any pre-existing conditions, that you have received all relevant vaccinations and that relevant medicine is available.
How do I get an insurance card?
Your insurance card contains information regarding your insurance as well as the contact information for us in case of an emergency. You can retrieve it with your employer or download it here.
Where do I find my policy number?
Your employer will be able to inform you of your policy number. You can also find it through this link or by ordering an insurance card.
Travel to war zones
Please contact your employer before any travel to war zone to ensure that your insurance provides coverage.
Is it safe to travel to the destination?
It is always a good idea to check the travel recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark to find information regarding your destination.
What health care providers can I use while abroad?

I have a chronic illness. Am I covered by the expat insurance?
Your insurance does cover chronic illnesses. If your chronic illness has been approved by If, you are covered the same way you would be if the the illness was an ordinary acute illness.
I need a health check before my stationing. Is that covered by the insurance?
Your insurance goes into effect when your stationing begins. Health checks, vaccinations and other consultations that take place before your stationing is not covered by the insurance.
Changes in your family situation
Your employer maintains a list of your company's expats in an If portal and if a claim is filed, If will check the validity in this portal. Therefore, it is important that you inform your employer if there are any changes to your family situation, such as newborns or relatives that leaves the stationing country. Should If not be able to find the name of the person needing the insurance, it may take a while to cross-check with your employer for confirmation.
When you begin your stationing in the USA, you will receive information from us regarding the routines of American health care.
American health care is significantly different from the Danish and therefore we recommend that you also call us at +45 70 13 13 35 if you are injured or fall ill during your stationing.
We have a quality-assured network of health care providers in the USA and can direct you to the nearest recommended clinic. We can also direct a pre-approval of payment directly to the health care provider so that you will not have to cover for the treatment yourself.

Treatment in China can be very expensive depending on the health care provider in question. Therefore it is important that you contact our emergency centre before receiving treatment in China. You can find the contact information on your insurance card. Our emergency centre has a large network of quality-assured health care providers and they are available 24/7 to direct you to the nearest clinic and provide a pre-approval of payment.
I have fallen ill in my home country and I cannot return to my stationing country. What do I do?
Additional expenses related to recovery of the original travel route is covered by the insurance if it is due to acute illness or undeserved delays. Call us at +45 70 13 13 35 for more information.
A close relative has fallen ill at home. Will the insurance cover expenses related to travelling home?
The insurance will cover addition expenses related to travelling home in the case that a close relative, suddenly and unexpectedly, has died or been hospitalised with a serious injury or illness. The insurance covers economy class plane tickets.
My flight has been delayed. Will the insurance cover a new ticket?When a flight is delayed, it is the responsibility of the airline to rebook you to a different departure or refund your ticket. The insurance does cover additional expenses related to waiting for a later departure and not covered by the airline, i.e. lodging, food, drink and reading material.
What should I do if I am injured or fall ill while abroad?
In case of an emergency you should always contact the local emergency numbers. Once the situation is under control and you need further assistance, please call us at +45 70 13 13 35. We offer help 24/7 and we have a large network of quality-assured health care providers that they collaborate with. We can direct you to a nearby hospital and provide pre-approval of payment. We offer help and assistance in English and Nordic languages.
You can also plan your doctor's appointment by yourself. In that case you will need to cover the expenses up front and make sure to keep receipts and journals. You will be able to send all relevant documents to us when filing your claim. You can easily file your claim here.
Do I need to pay for treatment at the clinic or the hospital myself?
If you call us at +45 70 13 13 35, we will be able to provide a pre-approval of payment directly to the hospital or health care provider. This means that we take care of the payments and you do not need cover for the treatment.
In some countries, it is not possible for us to provide pre-approval of payment. In these cases you need to cover for the treatments yourself and file your claim with us at a later date. Make sure to keep all receipts and journals related to the treatment.
What clinics can I use abroad?

They will be able to help you find a suitable health care provider in their quality-assured network. In the vast majority of cases, they will also be able to provide a pre-approval of payment.
Is dental care covered by my insurance?
Acute dental care is covered up to the amount laid out in the insurance. The dental treatment must be initiated abroad, but it may be completed in your country of residence if necessary. The dental care must be provided by a dentist who is authorized in the country they are operating in.
Dental care in general is covered up to the maximum amount laid out in the insurance terms and conditions.
Does the insurance cover transport to and from the health care provider or hospital?
Yes, the insurance covers reasonable and necessary expenses for transportation to and from a health care provider or hospital. In case of an emergency, we also cover expenses for an ambulance.
Does the insurance cover vaccinations?
Vaccinations are covered up to a certain amount every year, Child vaccinations are covered in accordance to the WHO vaccination programme.
What expenses are covered in relation to pregnancy and birth?
Reasonable, necessary and ordinary expenses related to pregnancy and birth are covered. This includes outpatient examinations, birth and transport by ambulance as well as examinations and vaccinations of the newborn during the stay at the hospital.
What do I do if I need treatment while I am in my country of residence?
The expat insurance also covers treatment while you are vacationing in your country of residence. Please contact customer service for more information.

The insurance covers Covid-19 tests for persons with symptoms compatible with the illness as well as when it is required by airlines or authorities in relation to business trips.
My baggage (e.g. cell phone, laptop) has been stolen. What do I do?
Contact the police and report the theft. Remember to get a police report. Having done so, you can file a claim and attach a list of the baggage items that were stolen. Write original price and purchase date for every item. If you have the original receipts for the stolen items, please attach them alongside the police report.
My checked-in baggage has been damaged. What do I do?
The insurance will cover damage to checked-in baggage if you have a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). You will get this in the airport. File your claim with us and send your PIR as well as a list of damaged items as well as receipts indicating purchase price and date.
My checked-in baggage has been delayed. What do I do?
If your checked-in baggage disappears for more then 3 hours during a departure, you need to retrieve a Property Irregularity Report from the airline. The insurance covers reasonable and necessary costs for critical medication, clothes and toiletry. Please make sure to keep the receipts for your purchases. If you have doubt regarding the limit of expenditure, please contact your employer.
My checked-in baggage has disappeared. What do I do now?
If your checked-in baggage has disappeared and the airline confirms the disappearance, then it is the airline or the tour operator who is responsible for providing compensation.
It is important that you fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) in the airport when you become aware that your baggage has not shown up.
If the airline does not provide full compensation for your baggage and/or its contents, you can claim the exceeding amount up to the maximum amount stated in the insurance letter. Please note that valuable items should be carried in the carry-on baggage.

Baggage is the items that you have brought along on your trip. Valuables such as cash, computer, phone, jewellery and camera must always be kept in your carry-on baggage.
